⚖️ Wellington Home Watch – Ethics & Professional Conduct Policy

This policy establishes the ethical standards and behavioural expectations for all Wellington Home Watch employees, inspectors, contractors, and representatives. It is aligned with National Home Watch Association (NHWA) principles and recognized Canadian Home Watch industry standards.

Guiding Ethical Principles

  • Act honestly, ethically, and in good faith at all times.
  • Protect the safety, privacy, and property of clients.
  • Maintain objectivity and neutrality in all observations and reports.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest or situations that could compromise trust.
  • Uphold the reputation and standards of the Home Watch profession.

A) Professional Conduct & Representation

  • Conduct oneself in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner at all times.
  • Arrive on time, properly equipped, and identifiable as a Wellington Home Watch representative.
  • Follow all Wellington Home Watch policies, procedures, and training requirements.
  • Comply with applicable municipal, provincial, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Never misrepresent services, findings, or authority.

B) Client Property, Privacy & Confidentiality

  • Access client properties only as authorized and only for Home Watch purposes.
  • Never use, consume, remove, borrow, or tamper with client property.
  • Do not disclose client schedules, travel plans, or absences.
  • Do not allow unauthorized persons to access a client property.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information and records.

C) Objectivity, Reporting & Communication

  • Report only factual, observable conditions.
  • Avoid assumptions, diagnoses, or professional opinions.
  • Use clear, neutral, and professional language in all reports.
  • Communicate promptly and accurately with clients when required.
  • Never exaggerate or minimize findings.

D) Conflicts of Interest & Contractor Relations

  • Do not accept gifts, tips, commissions, or incentives from clients or contractors.
  • Do not recommend vendors for personal benefit or undisclosed relationships.
  • Disclose any potential conflict of interest immediately to management.
  • Remain neutral when coordinating contractor access.

E) Safety, Sobriety & Fitness for Duty

  • Be fit for duty and capable of performing assigned tasks safely.
  • Zero tolerance for alcohol, illegal drugs, or impairment while on duty.
  • Follow all safety and emergency response policies.
  • Immediately report hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions.

F) Authority & Scope Limitations

  • Do not exceed assigned authority or make commitments on behalf of Wellington Home Watch.
  • Do not perform repairs, maintenance, or adjustments unless expressly authorized.
  • Do not provide professional, legal, or technical advice outside Home Watch scope.

G) Policy Violations & Enforcement

Violations of this policy may result in corrective action, suspension, termination of employment or contract, and/or reporting to appropriate authorities, insurers, or professional organizations where required.

Acknowledgement

All Wellington Home Watch personnel are expected to read, understand, and comply with this Ethics & Professional Conduct Policy at all times as a condition of engagement.
